Progress or Destruction?

"In the age of information, ignorance is a choice"

Our generation, yes, the 90s kids are lucky as hell. We’re the generation in front of whom technologies like cellphones and computers were developed. We were the ones who started using Google as a verb. Things went straight easier after that. But they say, there’s always a downside.

A friend of mine and I were once discussing about old people obsessed with technology. We, the users in their 20s have seen the downside and addictions of the devices in our teen years and have overcame it unlike the lonely old people who have nothing to do and are so much indulged in the screens. They don’t understand these apps are created with the help of psychologists which alter our natural brain chemicals like dopamine (the reward system) and fool us into believing and investing time and emotions in an illusion.

Even after decades of living with the growing technology, our brains can’t differ between reality and fiction. In easy words, the eyes just send signals to the brain that they’re seeing someone. Our brain assumes that they’re really in front of us, talking and having conversation with us. It doesn’t understand what a screen is. The celebrity lifestyle people follow is a complete illusion. The celebrities and famous people aren't even aware of their followers' existence. I can go all day about parasocial relationships. It’s scarier than you can imagine.
Now, living beings were living without technology and devices for billions of years. With evolution, our body clocks are adjusted according to sunrise and sunset. The artificial lighting since the last few decades heavily disturbs our sleep cycle. This results in the rise of modern problems of the society like insomnia and depression.

The problem is that grown-ups shouldn’t be this much ignorant. The kids born today are living with technology, devices and internet since their starting years of life. Because of this, kids develop shitty routines, desire for acceptance and validation and other scary side-effects of social media and multi-user platforms till they’re in their teenage. Humans should be able to live alone. If you can’t live alone even for some hours only with yourself, without cellphones and laptops,  there are some serious issues with your personality and you need to work on them ASAP. Live life like it’s supposed to live. Achieve stuff in real life, not in video games. Make friends in real life, not on multi-user connecting sites and apps. Hangout with people, go to places or play sports instead of sitting on computers and investing in virtual platforms. Pursue real people instead of watching porn and getting instant release. These things are developed to alter your mind and make money off you.

The irony is, technology was developed to save our time while it does the opposite.

I once read somewhere, “I see, as the world grows far more wicked. And sadly, the sheeple call it progress”.
